As expected, the Bears signed veteran linebacker Cato June. He passed a physical Tuesday after missing the first 12 weeks of the NFL season with a fractured forearm.
June suffered the injury as a member of the Houston Texans in August. He broke the bone on August 20 during a practice. June had surgery to insert a plate in his arm. He was placed on injured reserve and was released after an injury settlement.
Indianapolis drafted June in 2003, and after a year on special teams became a starter during the 2004 season. He went to the Pro Bowl in 2005, and started at linebacker against the Bears in Super Bowl 41 in 2006. After four years with the Colts, he signed with Tampa and backed up 11-time Pro Bowler Derrick Brooks.
June signed with Houston in the 2009 off-season.
With Lance Briggs questionable with a sore knee suffered against Minnesota, June could be active Sunday against the Rams. The Bears will make a corresponding roster move Wednesday, likely placing injured linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa on injured reserve.
