JOHNNY ROCKET
Speedster Johnny Knox is the NFL leader in kick return average. His 102-yard touchdown return set the tone for a 27-point second half explosion in the win over Detroit.
Knox is the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week piling up 147 yards on returns. His touchdown distance ranks second to Gale Sayers for the longest in Bears history.
“I always set my goals high,” said Knox.
In nine returns, Knox is averaging 35.8 yards.
TORN UP
Outside linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa made it clear his knee injury on the first snap of the regular season in Green Bay was significant.
“I tore the PCL,” said Tinoisamoa. “There’s nothing there holding it back. But fortunately it’s not a serious one. You just need your body to adjust to your movements.”
Tinoisamoa expects to start on the strong side October 18 in Atlanta against the Falcons.
“Fortunately, being Samoan we get big legs and big calves. It’s not something I can take like it was all me because I was born with this stuff.”
I guess Tinoisamoa is genetically blessed.
DEVIN WILL PLAY
A stiff neck is all that Devin Hester is dealing with after missing the second half of the Bears win over the Lions.
“Just in the process of just resting it,” Hester said. “It’s just a strained muscle in my neck. It’s not major. I will be ready for the Atlanta Falcons game.”
Hester is tied for second on the team in catches, and is third in receiving yards. He has two touchdowns.
WHAT WAS HE THINKING?
That was the question posed to Bears quarterback Jay Cutler after Wednesday’s practice. What was he thinking when he went airborne on a scramble to the end zone against Detroit on Sunday.
“I wasn’t really thinking that much,” said Cutler. “You know I wanted to kind of get it to Dez (Desmond Clark), but the corner kept dropping so I didn’t have a lot of options. When we get down there we’ve got to take advantage of those opportunities. We’ve got to get the ball in the end zone. We’re going to do whatever it takes.”
Cutler says he feels fantastic after one month. He is excited about the direction of the offense.
