With four days and counting until the selection of the 2016 Olympics host city, a new ranking of the candidate cities is out and shows a very close race between Rio de Janeiro and Chicago. Rio de Janeiro surged to the lead in the latest Around the Rings.com Olympic Bid Index with a total score of 84. Chicago is one point behind with 83 and Madrid and Tokyo are tied at 80. Since the last index in June, Rio gained seven points and scored better in seven categories. Around the Rings cites two leading factors including the emotional appeal of the first Olympics in South America and the strong leadership of Rio’s bid. For its part, Chicago made gains in three categories thanks in part to the strengthening of financial guarantees.
Going to be a close race but I’m hoping President Obama speaking out for Chicago’s bid for Olympics will receive the winning vote.
We are ex-pats living in London from the Chicago suburbs. We are anxiously awaiting the decision on Friday. We are proud of Chicago and think it will make a wonderful Host City for the 2016 Olympics! Fingers crossed!!!
