Kris Versteeg Locked Up

Rookie of the Year runner up Kris Versteeg will not leap through a loophole and leave the Blackhawks. Versteeg and the Hawks have come to terms on a three year contract, worth a reported 9-million-dollars plus. The deal keeps Versteeg off the open market.

“Kris’ tremendous rookie season was a big reason the team was able to go as far as it did,” Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon says. “He is part of a core of young players that is going to make this franchise successful for a long time.”

The deal comes just a couple of days after the Players Association filed a grievance against the team for not making qualifying offers to it’s “restricted” free agents in time. Versteeg could have become an “unrestricted” free agent and shop the open market.

Versteeg is the first hockey player ever to score at Wrigley Field.
